Anxiety disorders are very common. During my work I regulary come into contact with the different types of anxiety, such as generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, Panic disorder, phobias and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Fears may affect everyday life and are not always clearly distinguished from depressive mood. Depression and anxiety are common in an interaction and they reinforce each other,

Different types of anxiety disorders
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Anyone who suffers from a generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) can not stop to worry. The existing negative thoughts and fearinducing ideas lead to internal unrest. Often people know, that their fears regarding to the existing situations are exaggerated. Often this worry is accompanied by physical symptoms such as headaches, nervousness and tremors, and those who are affected are prone to have problems of concentration and sleep disorders.
Social anxiety
Within the various anxiety disorders social anxiety is the most common. Sufferers have difficulty in everyday social situations. In many cases, social interaction is experienced as stressful and emotionally negative. Many people have the feeling of being judged constantly. Sometimes these feelings are so problematic, that social situations are completely shunned. Social anxiety can have an impact on the school experience, the work or other activities, where it comes, to do something together with others. Sufferers often report, that they worry that they will be laughed at or humiliated. One of the biggest problems in most cases is, that fear affects the natural social behavior and thereby affects the response of other, for what reason the sufferers feel confirmed in their fears and still retreat. Nevertheless, the vicious circle can be broken with professional help.
Panic disorder
People with panic disorder suffer from sudden and repeated anxiety attacks, that last several minutes. These so-called panic attacks usually involve the fear of a loss of control or a disaster, although there are no real signs of danger. Panic attacks can be accompanied by sweating, ague, palpitations and/ or the feeling of not getting air.
obsessive-compulsive disorder
One of the most popular types of anxiety disorders is called OCD. Sufferers recognize obsessive thoughts and repetitive rituals, which they do in order to reduce their anxiety. There are different forms, typical forms of obsessive compulsive disorder include frequent hand washing, the fixation on a particular person or situation or thought patterns, recurrent thoughts, which can not be released. These circles of thought and behavioral constraints can be very time-consuming, so that there is not much time for everyday activities.
Phobias
Phobias are scientifically one of the most explored anxiety disorders. There are many different types of phobias, of which some are more common than others. Generally phobias can be described as irrational and unrealistic fears about an object / animal or situation, which restrict or have a negative impact on everyday life. Typical phobias are the blood phobia, Insect phobia or fear of flying. Modern science has developed therapies and techniques, can be reduced with the help triggered by phobias anxiety or even dissolved.
Causes of anxiety disorders
The exact causes of anxiety disorders are still unknown. It can be both a genetic predisposition to anxiety, as well as personal experiences. Interestingly, the experience alone is not decisive. Two people may have lived through the same decisive situation but then deal with it differently, so that only some of them develop an anxiety disorder after such an experience, while the others remain without symptoms. The more and more extensive investigations provide psychologists insight into the anxiety and the most effective treatments.
Treatment of anxiety
-, To treat anxiety disorders, there are many techniques and tools at our disposal. I use a variety of methods, including cognitive behavioral training, stress-management-training, Mindfulness- and awareness training and relaxation methods, to reduce the suffering caused by anxiety. Often sufferers have additional areas of their lives, where they would like to change something. All factors are taken into account for the individual counseling and added to the treatment goals to achieve an optimal result.
Normally, the treatment begins with an examination of personal experience with anxiety, on the basis of which a personal treatment plan is drawn up, which is specifying for example, whether a short-term behavioral training with inclusion of environmental factors is enough, or whether a long-term cognitive behavioral training is recommended. The treatment program is tailored to the individual needs. During your work with the program, you might want to use the sessions, to explore your feelings and to make more awareness, or you decide, that the treatment is completed after the finished cognitive behavioral training. I work with both kinds of patients, with such who search the short-term counseling, as well as with such, want the long-term weekly support. In any case, I offer detailed counseling about the various treatment options and programs to reduce anxiety.
